Reddit CEO criticizes Elon Musk for being behind on internet culture

The former Reddit CEO asserted that if he took over Twitter, Elon Musk would be in trouble because he wasn’t ready.

2012-2014 Reddit CEO Huang Yishan shared on Twitter the reality of running a social networking platform and said Musk knew nothing about Twitter. According to Wang, the world’s richest billionaires are backward and don’t understand the current internet culture.

Musk’s internet vision is outdated

The former Reddit CEO believes that many Gen X tech giants, including Elon Musk, grew up in a very different online world than today.

“For them, the Internet symbolizes freedom, a new world and an ideal place for people to live. They believe that this platform will help humanity enter an era of brilliant development,” Huang wrote on his personal page.

However, Wong believes this image is outdated. According to him, the world has changed and the right to free speech is now not just about speaking up, but about fighting and defending one’s own views to the end.
“The Internet is not a place where people talk freely now. It’s a place where cultures collide and clash in the real world,” he said.

The former CEO of social network Reddit also believes that Elon Musk has been slow to speak out on Bitcoin, and if he really understood the current Internet culture, he would have known it. “Spending all day on trams and rockets really confuses social media,” commented Wong.

Elon Musk will be a Twitter criminal

Commenting on the Tesla CEO’s decision to take over Twitter, Wong said that the more Musk tries to fix what he thinks is wrong, the more problems he creates. Huang believes it will cost Musk’s time, interest and even mental torment.

Former Reddit CEO Yishan Wong believes that managing social networks is not as ideal as others think. Even if he doesn’t take the CEO seat, Elon Musk must be held accountable for Twitter’s shortcomings.

“The process of running a social network is very tough, so I don’t think Elon Musk should do it. It’s too time-consuming, and in my opinion, his time is precious and limited,” Wong wrote.

On the other hand, when it comes to social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit, Wong said they are not interested in politics or free speech. Basically, this platform was created so that anyone can share anything on the social network without any consequences. So people started showing their dark side, creating a world of social networking, just like the internet is today.

In response to CEO Yishan Wong’s post, Elon Musk just commented that Twitter really needs a longer post feature.

Elon Musk just offered to buy all of Twitter for $43 billion. In an email to Twitter’s board, the world’s richest billionaire said the platform “cannot thrive and serve (free speech) in its current state.” Musk in 2022 TED talk responded to this comment.

To prevent billionaire Elon Musk from taking over the entire company, Twitter decided to use a defensive tactic called “poison.” The mechanism gives shareholders the right to repurchase shares at a below-market price, with the aim of diluting the shares potentially repurchased. In the case of Twitter, a “poison” defense would immediately dilute Musk’s stock, making his Twitter acquisition more difficult.

At TED 2022, Elon Musk revealed that he has a backup plan, but declined to elaborate.
