In Vietnam, more than 20,000 people die of lung cancer each year, of which about 15% are small cell lung cancer.
There are many reasons for lung cancer, including: immune deficiency, genetic system changes and external environmental influences.
Related to environmental factors, smoking is the main cause of lung cancer. 90% of lung cancer patients are caused by smoking. In K Hospital, many lung cancer patients have smoked more than 10 cigarettes a day for many years. In addition, smoking is also one of the main causes of lung cancer. In addition, there are some lung cancer patients who do not smoke, but they may have been exposed to some type of lung cancer. A large amount of secondhand smoke (passive smoking, long-term exposure to secondhand smoke).
There are two main types of lung cancer: small cell lung cancer, which accounts for about 10-15%; and non-small cell lung cancer, which accounts for about 90%.
Small cell lung cancer has three characteristics:
-Rapid progression to metastasis and death. If local small cell lung cancer is not treated, the survival time is about 12-15 weeks, and the invasion period is 6-9 weeks.
In many patients, neuroendocrine small cell lung cancer can cause clinical aplastic syndrome.
Small cell lung cancer is very sensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Because small cell lung cancer is characterized by rapid metastasis to distant places and is particularly sensitive to chemotherapy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy play an important role in the treatment of small cell lung cancer.
In the early stages, small cell lung cancer develops silently, with almost no symptoms.
In the advanced stages, symptoms vary depending on the location of the tumor and the degree of damage.
The most common signs and symptoms of small cell lung cancer include:
-Shortness of breath
-Repeated infections, such as bronchitis and pneumonia
-Weight loss and loss of appetite
In addition, patients may experience bone pain, abdominal pain, or back pain; neurological symptoms such as headache, weakness or numbness of the limbs, dizziness, and convulsions.
